100 miles for the Phoenix Garden

By Peter Anderton Join Me

My name’s Pete, and I’m a Stroke Physician in Doncaster. My team and I have recently opened a £1.4m, NHS-first advanced therapy robotics suite in the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Mexborough Hospital: the Phoenix Therapy Suite. The robotics were generously funded through the Fred and Ann Green bequest.

The next phase of the project is to redevelop the courtyard around the Phoenix Suite into a beautifully landscaped, bespoke therapy garden, for patients, families and staff to use together, and for patients to engage in horticultural therapy as part of their Stroke rehabilitation. We have also designed a garden room, so the garden can be enjoyed year round no matter what the Yorkshire weather throws at us. There is now a wealth of science showing the health benefits of being in green spaces, and this is part of our approach to maximise the recovery for Stroke survivors.

We don’t have NHS funds for this, so need to raise money through charity, and sponsorship.

I’m walking the South Downs Way (~100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne) this September to help with the fundraising.

Please help us by giving whatever you can.

The more people that know about this project, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
