I'm fundraising for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity

I support the women, calming the screams,

Survive on tea and half-baked dreams.

But now I’m running with my shoes laced tight,

For charity, and not just fright!


From robots sharp to memory kits,

This charity funds all the hits.

So I’ll jog, I’ll puff, I might just crawl

But I’ll do it with love for one and all!


So this midwife has her moment to shine,

I’ve timed contractions — now it’s my time!


As a midwife in the Trust, I’m already used to long shifts, running up and down corridors, and catching babies and helping women at all hours of the day; so really, signing up for a run might just feel like another day at work… except with slightly less screaming (and tears hopefully).


In all seriousness, I’m running  I’ve seen first hand the incredible work the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity does.

 From seeing the women benefit from comforting spaces for families dealing with heartbreak in maternity and this charity helps us go beyond the basics and deliver the kind of care that really stays with people.


I’ve watched families, unfortunately friends and colleagues benefit from the charity’s support. Whether that’s through improved resources, vital equipment, or simply knowing they’re backed by a team that truly cares. And let’s be honest: in maternity, we’re used to making magic happen with very little-so when the charity steps in with extras that really make a difference, we notice (and we might even cry… but in a heartfelt, not sleep-deprived way).


Running for this cause is my way of giving back to a team and a community that constantly give their all. And if I have to swap my Crocs for running trainers to do it-so be it. Though if someone could meet me at the finish line with snacks and a cup of tea, that’d be great!

MARANOIA SETTING IN NOW TAPERING HAS BEGUN! “What time are you aiming for in the marathon?” Last June I couldn’t run for 30 seconds without questioning all my life choices…and I’ve signed up for 26.2 miles. Make it make sense. So no, I don’t have a target time. I have a survival plan. I’m aiming to: • Not get overtaken by someone dressed as a banana • Keep my legs attached for the full distance • Accept snacks from strangers like it’s completely normal • And not uncontrollably sob the whole way.. maybe 24 miles. And somehow make it to the finish line. Honestly, if I cross that line smiling (or at least conscious), I’m calling it a win.

Next time I run this (and the rest) … it’ll be marathon day! Today was a real grind. Super slow pace and honestly couldn’t have pushed any faster and running straight after a night shift Tuesday is no joke. Legs felt heavy from the first step, but I stuck it out. Not every run feels good, but they all count. Another tick on the training plan Maranoia needs to stop! Done in 02:17:30 Sheffield Half Marathon ✔️ Took on a route that was basically 6 ish miles up… and then luckily miles back down. Safe to say it was a BIG challenge for me. I don’t think I could do another lap of that course… Honestly, I’m so happy with my time too..my goal was 2:45 👏🏻 Roll on London @dbthcharity

Screaming. Crying. Throwing up One month. Just ONE MONTH until the London Marathon Somewhere between excitement, panic, and "what have I actually signed up for???" Early mornings, long runs, tired legs, and way too much time spent thinking about snacks. It's been a journey already... and now it's getting very real. Not every run has felt strong, not every week has gone to plan, but we're still showing up. And that has to count for something. Counting down the days, trusting the training, and hoping my legs remember what they're doing on the day. Let's see what happens...

Probably going to be a normal occurrence on long runs now… but I just ran my first HALF MARATHON distance in marathon training 🏃‍♀️

I really wanted to bring it in under the 2hr 30 training target… but never mind.

Because I am SO happy.

After how awful my last run felt, today felt completely different. I cried again …but this time it was happy tears. And that’s a win 🥹

It was slower and harder than I hoped, and the weather was bloody gorgeous!-  because time really doesn’t matter but I wanted sub 2 hours so I am so happy!
