Great North Run for The Gresley Unit

Why im running the Great North Run

I started running last year as a way of trying to get fit again but it has ended up being all-consuming in my daily life. Then after watching last years Great North Run I decided to put in for the 2026 ballot not thinking id have a chance of getting in. A few weeks later to my utter shock I received an email confirming my entry. Reality hit that it was actually happening and I needed to start training for the event.

In my mind I always wanted to run for a purpose at this event and raise some money for a Charity but was uncertain which ones as they all do a fantastic job. But unfortunately last year we lost my Grandad Malcolm to Alzheimer's. My Grandad was cared for the last two weeks of his life by the staff on the Gresley Unit here at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and they helped support us as a family and made his last days with us as comfortable as possible.

I have also worked within the trust now for 13 years in the Procurement department and I have seen first hand the great work that goes on daily within our trust and how much a difference contributions to our charity can make to patients and staff. So after much thought I will be running this years Great North run with  on the 13th September for our DBTH Charity but in particular The Gresley Unit, in the memory of my Grandad Malc and I am hoping the extra funds can help patients and staff on the unit.

Please help me help them by giving whatever you can. The more people that know about Charity, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.

I truly appreciate any contributions made and thank you for your kind generosity.

Normanby Hall 10k

Tuesday 14th Jul
This weekend I took part in the Normanby Hall 10k event alongside 1200 other people and it was a fantastic morning. This was my last organised event before the Great North run in September and allowed me to gauge where I was training wise. The first 5k was fantastic, legs felt great and was on track for a 10k PB. But at 6k the hill hit us all and with the warm weather I struggled through to the end to finish 20 seconds behind my last 10k run, disappointed but also happy with how my legs did feel the first half of the event. With 64 days to go the training will ramp up further (along with doing some hill training) I’m really excited to get to the start line.
