I am Abseiling down DRI Women's and Children's Hospital for

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity. I work for Changing Lives Perinatal and Family Support Service. The Midwifery team at DBTH provide support for the women we work with and also as professionals support us as a third sector service, creating links in marginalised communities.

Just over a month to go...

Thursday 12th Mar
On April the 25th I will be abseiling down the women and children's hospital at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. 
I have chosen to do this for many reasons. In no particular order:
1. To raise funds for the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
2. Because both of my boys were born there, under very stressful and traumatic circumstances but are both with me today, healthy, because of the medical intervention I received.
3. Because my Grandad loved to Abseil. we lost him September last year and I will carry him down the wall withe me in my heart.
4. Because my work in Perinatal Wellbeing and Maternal Health Inequalities for women from marginalized communities has allowed me to meet some of the wonderful staff who work at DRI and who are trying to make genuine change.
5. Because I am a Mum, and whilst thats my absolute favourite thing in the world.. Since I became a Mum I feel like I might have to have lost a little of "old me". Last year I completed a degree, mainly to prove to my kids that it's good to challenge yourself and that you will never stop learning. This year I will show them that there is more than one way to challenge yourself. I hope they will be proud. And I hope that "Inner Old Gemma" will be proud of me too.
